The FDIC and the Federal Reserve are competing in a race against time to regulate big banks before the next collapse that could tank the U.S. economy for the second time in a decade. The latest development this past week comes from the FDIC.

David Cameron set the date for a British referendum on membership in the European Union for June 23 of this year. He promises to run a vigorous campaign to stay in, whereas many high ranking officials, including the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and Justice Secretary, Michael Gove, promise to lead a strong initiative to abandon the Union. 

This election season has turned into the season of angry voters. Gone are the rational minds of middle class men and women interested in electing qualified, intelligent, and responsible officials. Competent candidates such as Scott Walker have long since dropped from the Republican primary race because they did not wish to take part in a circus. Many more have dropped because they cannot keep up with the circus. 

For almost a month now, we have been hearing about gun wielding activists occupying an animal wildlife refuge in rural Oregon. It is easy to dismiss these self-proclaimed militiamen as right-wing extremists with absurd justifications for initiating a government standoff. But one question that should be running through your mind is, “why are they still out there?”

Before Thanksgiving recess, students and professors filled the Red Pit to capacity to attend a discussion panel hosted by Professor Erol Balkan (Economics), Professor Heather Merrill (Africana Studies), and Professor Alan Cafruny (Government) regarding the global refugee crisis.

In the wake of yet another mass shooting a few weeks ago, pundits and politicians from the left and right are rushing the microphone to show support for victims and their families. They call for policy changes, more enforcement, and stricter laws. They want to see a safe America. They can’t have this happen again.
